Rockies “battery” does in Pirates,5-3

Game 95 Recap-

The Colorado Rockies got big performances from both the starting pitcher AND catcher, helping them defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates,5-3 Thursday Night at Coors Field in Denver to open the 2nd half. C Chris Iannetta(homer,3 rbi) provided the offense & RH SP Ubaldo Jimenez(5-9,4.20) was strong over 7 innings. Jimenez allowed 5 hits and 3 runs with 4 Ks and 2 walks.

The Pirates struck for 3 runs in the 3rd inning. CF Nate McLouth,carrying over his amazing All Star 1st half, scored on a wild pitch. 1b Adam Laroche followed with a deep double to plate 2, making it 3-0 very quickly. Colorado rallied in the 4th vs Pirates LH Paul Maholm(6-6,4.10) for 2 runs. 1b Jeff Baker(2 hits) doubled in a run and the 2nd run scored on Iannetta’s rbi single. Maholm labored in the altitude and lost the game in the 6th. 3b Garrett Atkins doubled in the tying run. Iannetta then homered to left, making the score 5-3 Colorado.

Pirates relievers, RH Denny Bautista(3-2,3.77) and LH Sean Burnett(0-1,4.55) kept the team in rally range with scoreless relief in the 7th & 8th. However, the Rockies pen matched them and raised the deck as well. LH closer(Trade bait?) Brian Fuentes(1-4,3.41) struck out all 3 batters in the 9th for his 15th save on the season(100th career)

Star of the Game-

Iannetta- Huge night with the bat and was outstanding behind the plate

Team recalled RH RP Marino Salas(1-0,11.17) Thursday…Laroche had 2 of the clubs 5 hits…
