Game 67 Recap-
Pittsburgh Pirates C Ryan Doumit(.365, 9 homer runs,22 RBI over 126 ABs) continued his assault on the Washington Nationals pitching staff & the club rode that to a 7-5 win Thursday at PNC Park in Pennsylvania. He started 1 of 12 in the first 3 games since he returned from a broken thumb and errupted over this series, going 9 for 11 with 4 homers, 2 doubles & 7 rbi.
The Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st after Doumit’s 2 run homer. The deficit was 4-0 after a bases loaded walk to SP Tom Gorzelanny(!?) & sacrifice fly by CF Nate McLouth. All of this damage came against Nationals SP, RH Jason Bergmann.(1-4,5.48) The 3rd Year ML lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits & 6 runs(4 earned) with 2 strikeouts & a walk.
The Nationals plated a run in the 3rd via rbi triple by RF Elijah Dukes off of Pirates SP, LH Tom Gorzelanny.(5-5,6.65) Pittsburgh added 2 runs in the 5th on rbi hits by Doumit(single) and LF Jason Bay(sacrifice fly). Gorzelanny ran into some trouble in the 6th and long man, LH Sean Burnett(7.30 era) got the final out but 2 runs came across the plate.
The Pirates had a make shift bullpen today with closer Matt Capps(2.56,16 saves) getting the day off with 3 consecutive days pitched. RHs Franquelis Osoria(3rd hold) and Tyler Yates(9th hold) kept the lead by allowing 1 run thru 2 pitched innings. LH Damaso Marte took the save(#1) with strong ninth and a nice Pirates 7-5 victory.
