Brandon Webb shows why he is CY, Diamondbacks beat Pirates, 3-1

Game 61 Recap-

The Pittsburgh Pirates ran into a buzzsaw named Brandon Webb Friday night, losing 3-1 to the Arizona DiamondBacks and the reigning NL CY Young award winner at PNC Park Friday. Webb,now 11-2 with a 2.58 era, was devastating and in control from pitch 1. He went 7 innings with 3 hits and allowed 1 run with 3 strike outs.

RH SP Ian Snell(2-6,5.65)pitched well but on the wrong night. He went 5, allowed 5 hits with 2 runs(1 earned run),9 strikeouts and 3 walks. The runs came in the 2nd(SS Stephen Drew double) and 5th(2b Orlando Hudson sacrifice fly). RH Franquelis  Osoria pitched 1 1/3 but gave up a huge run in the 6th on a single by Webb and a 3-0 deficit.

Pirates LF Jason Bay doubled in 2b Freddy Sanchez in the 6th to plate the team’s lone run vs Webb. Top set up  man, rh Tony Pena(0-1,3.25) pitched the 8th for his 11th hold on the year with Arizona. Diamondbacks closer RH  Brandon Lyon gave up 2 hits in the 9th but sucked it up and got his 13th save of the 2008 campaign.

Webb— SHOCK!!! Dominant start and a huge RBI

Pirates Notes-

C Ryan Doumit(.350, ) returned for te 1st time since breaking his lef thumb on May 14, he was 0 for 4… 2b Freddy Sanchez had 2 of the clubs 6 hits…. Snell has gone 5 innings or less in 4 of this last 5 starts
