Game 36 Recap-
Pittsburgh Pirates 5- Atlanta Braves 2
LH Tom Gorzelanny won his 3rd game and C Ronny Paulino drove in 3 runs with a sac fly and 2 run double to help the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 5-2 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh Saturday Night. Gorzelanny(5.97) was huge, allowing the pen to get some much needed rest with 7 1/3 innings of work, 7 hits and 2 runs, while walking 2 and striking out 4.
The game did not start well for the Pirates as Braves 1b Mark Teixeira hit a 2 run homer in the 1st. Paulino cut the margin in half with a sacrifice fly in the 2nd. LF Jason Bay put the Pirates ahead for good in the 4th with a 2 run homer and a 3-2 lead. Paulino added 2 more runs in the 6th with a double to deep right center. RH RP Franquelis Osoria pitched 2/3 of an inning in the 8th for a hold and closer Matt Capps pitched a clean ninth for his 9th save and a Pirates win.
Stars of the Game-Gorzelanny and Paulino share the title. The veteran LH had walked 12 in his previous 2 starts and 27 over his 27 1/3 innings. Paulino, who has not played much with Ryan Doumit nailing down the starting catcher job, was all the offense the Pirates needed tonight.
