Pirates Win Out of the Gate Behind Jeff Karstens Five Hit Shutout

by @ 4:01 am. Filed under 2011 Pirates

We’re one game removed from the All Star Break and I’m still happy that the Pirates are just in the mix.  And what a way to kick off the season half.  Jeff Karstens needed only 83 pitches and he gave up five hits with two strikeouts in the shutout.  You probably don’t hear his name enough but this is a guy who could definitely contend for the Cy Young.

Andrew McCutchen had the big hit with a two run triple.  Neil Walker singled home a run in the first to put the Pirates on the board.

The team sits at 48-43.  That’s good enough to be in the mix in this division so I’ll take it.  Here’s to a successful second half to the season.
