Baseball America released their list of the top ten Pirates prospects and the top guy on the list is Jameson Taillon. The 2010 first round draft pick signed too late to major his pro debut but he’ll get his first taste of minor league baseball this year. This is a big kid (6’5″ and he’ll be 19 all of the season) and he can throw hard. He’s a future ace though and I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on this guy.
Number two is the Pirates first round pick from 2009, catcher Tony Sanchez. Sanchez raked in 2009 and he hit .314 at High A. He’ll make his debut at Double-A this year which means he’ll be knocking on the Pirates door sometime soon.
Number three is Stetson Allie is another flame thrower and like Taillon, he didn’t sign early enough to play. He’ll turn 20 during spring training and he’s being billed as the closer of the future. Starling Marte (fleet footed outfielder, should start at Double-A) and Luis Heredia (2010 signing, only 16 years old right handed pitcher) round out the top five.
